My friend dropped off the latest installment of David Attenborough documentaries and, unsurprisingly, i got inspired. Little Poison arrow frogs from South America are always inspiring if you like colour. They're like little jewels. I like this picture because it's more of a design than a picture. I often just paint a scene, whereas this is more designed and choreographed. The colour circle design shows how brightly coloured and varied they are. I wanted the rest of the picture to be quite quiet to really show off the frogs, the black border just holds everything in and links the leaves together.
