Magazine contact

I emailed a few magazine editors and art directors to ask what they looked for in an illustrator, i am awaiting a reply.

Dear [magazines name]
I am a student in my second year of Illustration and starting to contact people in the industry to get as good as i can before i turn proffessional. I understand the majority of images in your magazine are either adverts or photos, but do you ever get artists to illustrate an article? If so, what do you look for in the artwork? And how do you pick the illustrator, do you chose just one or keep it open to a few?
