Riitta Ikonen is an illustrator from Finland but did her degree in Brighton. Although i don't believe her work relates to myown i wanted to go to the lecture to find out about the way she works and how she got where ahe is, to help me in the future. After completing her degree she began her sewing career, after a time she came to think that illustrators should draw so got a job in a graphic design firm and 'hated every second of it'so soon returned to her true love - textiles. Much of her work is about bringing attention to environmental issues such as over-fishing and deforestation. She models the majority of her outfits so she has to collaborate with companies and photographers, which she seems to enjoy. Her parents in Finland taught her to scan the ground for mushrooms which, when taken into London, means she has a large collection of found objects and bric-a-brac to work with or draw inspiration from. The thing that really struck me about Riitta was how relaxed and confident she was talking in front of a large audience. This really made me think sbout how i conduct myself during presentations, I don't feel anywhere near as nervous as i used to be but i don't think i come across as confident and clear.
