Motivational speech

I just wanted to share an email from Martin from the album cover compitition. I sent this on hearing Dom had won:
Hi Martin
That's been the story of my life, only doing what's asked, not more. But hopefully it helped to hear it from a potential client i just lost, maybe it'll give me a kick start. Though if anyone had to win i'm glad it's Dom. She's in my Illustration class and a really nice down to earth girl.

And i got this moving reply:

Hi Gabby,
You know what, that’s a really great way to take it and it is that attitude that will see you right. Always go above and beyond, that’s how you stand out from the competition. Decide it’s going to give you a kick start and if you ever get beaten on a job again it won’t be because you didn’t go that extra mile.

A very good friend of mine high up in advertising said to me before going for an international brand pitch “you can do as much as possible, but at the end of the day it’s down to whether the bird fancies you” What he meant by that is it’s not always down to your effort, sometimes it’s just not right for the pitch. That’s the other side of the coin so don’t be disheartened either. Luck is where preparation meets opportunity so be as prepared as you possibly can be.
